Bio:
Shivakumar Mathapathi is an accomplished educator, researcher, and technology innovator with several decades of combined industry and academic experience in hardware design, software development, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning (ML).
He currently serves as an Adjunct Faculty member at Northeastern University and University of California San Diego Extension, and is also recognized as a faculty member in Engineering and Engineering Technology at Ohlone College in the United States.
Shivakumar has played a pivotal role in bridging the gap between industry and academia by mentoring students in programs focused on advanced manufacturing, smart factories, and semiconductor technologies. His work integrates IoT, AI, smart manufacturing, and Industry 4.0 concepts, providing students with hands-on experience through real-world engineering projects.
His scholarly and research contributions have earned significant recognition. He recently received the Best Paper Award from the American Society for Engineering Education for the co-authored paper “Integrating Generative AI Tools into the Capstone Course,” written with Dr. Farid Farahmand of Sonoma State University. He has also presented at leading conferences such as SIGCSE and published extensively in IEEE journals and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Smart City initiatives.
In addition, he serves as co-editor of two Springer publications: Emergent Converging Technologies and Biomedical Systems (ETBS 2021) and Soft Computing for Intelligent Systems (ICSCS 2020). He is the co-founder of Xtrans Solutions LLC, where he collaborates with universities, researchers, and research scholars to establish Centers of Excellence (CoE) focused on IoT, machine learning, and applied research.
Shivakumar also contributes as a mentor in international research initiatives, including the Next Generation Internet Transatlantic Fellowship Program supported by the European Commission.
