Magnetic Sensing at the PicoTesla Level: Unlocking Next-Gen Wearables and Digital Health

Advances in Tunneling Magnetoresistance (TMR) have opened the door to a new era of ultra-sensitive, low-power sensors capable of detecting picoTesla-level magnetic fields. This session will explore how these breakthroughs enable novel applications in digital health, extended reality, and human–machine interaction. Drawing on experience in both academia and industry, Kia Nazarpour will discuss how magnetic sensing differs from electrical biosignal measurement, how custom ASICs and edge AI unlock real-time adaptability, and how magnetic sensing is reshaping wearables from continuous cardiac monitoring to gesture recognition wristbands. Attendees will gain insight into the science, design, and integration challenges of magnetic sensors and walk away with an understanding of how to harness these capabilities in next-generation devices.
