The Intuitive Home: Ambient Sensing for Comfort, Safety, Lower Costs & a Sustainable Future

Session details:

The modern smart homes and buildings should be much more than just a collection of connected gadgets – they should anticipate tenants’ needs and not only react to changing conditions, but take proactive steps to increase occupants’ safety, comfort and savings from efficient operations. The sensors in such Intuitive Homes should not be visible nor a “fashion” statement of a “sensor bro”, rather an ambient network delivering information making environments around us convenient, safe and more energy efficient. This presentation moves beyond the ubiquitous smart speaker to explore the impact of next-generation sensors - from presence detection that optimizes HVAC and EV charging, to environmental sensors that improve and protect tenant health by monitoring air quality and detecting water leaks before they become catastrophic. We will look at real-world case studies demonstrating significant energy savings and enhanced resident safety, showcasing how integrating these technologies is no longer a luxury, but an expected necessity in building resilient, cost-effective, and healthy living spaces for the future.
