Monocular Shape-From-Polarization Imaging for Mass Market Machine Vision Applications.

Session details:

Integrated directly onto the image sensor using foundry compatible DUV process, metasurfaces can be engineered to capture polarization information with a single infrared image and camera, offering new and superior depth sensing capabilities without the need for an additional dot projection module or specialized time-of-flight sensor. Designing a full stack solution, Metalenz has created computational algorithms in parallel with the optical hardware to parse this new set of polarized light information.

This new approach to sensing, centered around the unique capabilities of metasurface optics, delivers unprecedented insights to mass market machine vision and consumer devices for the first time, using monocular shape-from-polarization imaging to extract specular, diffractive, and surface information, enabling precision shape and edge detection, material composition detection, and hyper-realistic rendering in mixed reality environments. This presentation will discuss how Metalenz has developed computational algorithms along with novel polarization image sensing technology for current and future mass market machine vision use cases.
