Scaling Polarization Imaging: Bringing New Insights to Billions of Devices
Session details:
Polarization imaging has long been a laboratory tool—due to the unique capabilities of metasurface optics, it is now entering mass-market devices. Integrated directly onto the image sensor using foundry compatible DUV process, metasurfaces can be engineered to capture polarization information with a single infrared image and camera- eliminating the need for bulky dot projectors and external optics. Designing a full stack solution, Metalenz has created computational algorithms in parallel with the optical hardware to parse this new set of polarized light information.
This new approach to depth sensing brings a previously inaccessible layer of information to machine vision while reducing system size, cost, and complexity compared to current solutions. By making polarization sensing manufacturable at semiconductor scale, and building the computational AI around it, Metalenz is reshaping how devices see and interact with the world, enabling advanced sensing to proliferate across consumer devices, robotics, and IoT.
